چکیده

Introduction: A 30,000 km valley system at ~34E, 41N in the Deuteronilus-Protonilus Mensae (DPM) region has been interpreted as a relict integrated debriscovered valley glacial system (Fig 1a) [1] and is typical of dozens of fretted valleys along the dichotomy boundary [2]. In order to assess this hypothesis, we compare results from the University of Maine Ice Sheet Model (UMISM) to the features described in [1] to further analyze potential timing and flow processes responsible for candidate glacial features.

Evidence for Amazonian northern mid-latitude regional glacial landsystems on Mars: Glacial flow models using GCM-driven climate results and comparisons to geological observations

A fretted valley system on Mars located at the northern mid-latitude dichotomy boundary contains lineated valley fill (LVF) with extensive flow-like features interpreted to be glacial in origin. We have modeled this deposit using...

Modification of the Dichotomy Boundary on Mars by Amazonian Mid-latitude Regional Glaciation

[1] Restoration of the dichotomy boundary to its original position to assess its origin requires a thorough knowledge of processes responsible for its degradation and retreat. The unique fretted terrain, located along the DeuteronilusProtonilus Mensae northern mid-latitude portion of the boundary, has been long held to provide clues to dichotomy degradation processes. We use new spacecraft data...

Mid-latitude Glacial Modification of Moreux Crater (44°e, 42°n; 135 Km): Evi- Dence for Polythermal Glaciation Related to Impact-induced Enhanced Thermal Gradients

Introduction: The dichotomy boundary represents one of the most important geological and geophysical features of Mars. We have been assessing the nature of modification processes along the dichotomy boundary at northern mid-latitudes in the Deuteronilus-Protonilus region and have found evidence for extensive regional Amazonian glaciation in lobate debris aprons (LDA) and lineated valley fill (L...

Latest Pleistocene and Holocene glacier fluctuations in the Himalaya and Tibet

The timing and extent of latest Pleistocene and Holocene alpine glacier fluctuations in the Himalaya and Tibet are poorly defined due to the logistical and political inaccessibility of the region, and the general lack of modern studies of the glacial successions. Nevertheless, renewed interest in the region and the aid of newly developing numerical dating techniques have provided new insights i...
